Vivian decides to create a zine called Moxie, inspired by stories of her mom’s own rebellious Gen-X teenage years. But Vivian is getting fed up with the injustices she sees around her, from the way girls’ sports are undervalued, to a sexist dress code, to an annual list of rankings – “best ass” and worse – crafted by a boys’ team whose time would clearly be better put to use on football practice. They’re shy and happiest in each other’s company, eager to keep their heads down and ride out the second half of high school. It stars Hadley Robinson as Vivian, who, as the film opens, is just starting Grade 11 in the company of her best friend Claudia (Lauren Tsai). And fitting nicely into the middle is Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler and based on the teen novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu.
